Flint Councilman Eric Mays, a prominent city leader who served three terms from 2013 until his passing in 2024, represented northwest Flint as the councilor for the First Ward on the Flint City Council.

Dedicated to public service, Councilman Mays passionately advocated for his constituents, making sure their voices were heard in a government environment that occasionally seemed to stifle differing viewpoints.

When a prominent figure in the community passes away, their achievements, struggles, beliefs, and deeds are often shared worldwide. They are hailed as heroes one last time, receiving recognition for their contributions.

In today's digital age, we have the opportunity to extensively showcase their impact on social media. We flood platforms with their speeches, images, words, and deeds to honor their memory, unite in grief, and reminisce about the fond moments we shared with them.

This is precisely what is happening with Mr. Eric Mays and his enduring legacy. Numerous videos capture Mr. Mays fearlessly advocating for justice, all the while bringing joy to us with his charismatic delivery.

As we reflect on Mr. Mays' remarkable influence and unwavering commitment to Flint, let's not only applaud his achievements and principles but also contemplate how we can carry forward his legacy. Let's pick up the torch, fulfill his unfinished tasks, and ensure that Flint thrives for all its residents.

Mourning and paying tribute are essential, but we must also commit to progress, push for change, and create a lasting impact. This is the truest way to honor someone's legacy in their absence, by embodying the ideals they lived by.

Let's continue the work started by Mr. Mays and honor him through our actions. By building upon the foundation he laid, we can further enhance Flint's development.
